Slow mixers are used in slow mixing chambers to soften particles that have become flocs from the quick mixing chamber by adding polyelectrolytes. This process allows the particles to be combined or increased in size.

Slow mixers are manufactured as crawler type. Crawler mixers act as flocculants.
